Our Personnel and Experience:
Maureen A. Hodge, the director of CPS 101, served over 30 years as a teacher and college counselor. She holds a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Maine and two Masters degrees from the University of Maine. She has been a member of the American Counseling Association, American School Counselor Association, the Maine Education Association, and the New England Admissions Counselor Association and has assisted over 4000 students with the college placement process during her career. Many of her clients have been placed in the most highly selective educational institutions in this nation. Maureen works with a team of educational consultants and professionals, all with experience in secondary education and higher education.
Jan Rideout, a retired English teacher, brings 30 years of both college and high school experience to CPS 101. Involved with the National Writing Project and a NWP consultant, she offers workshops in writing throughout the State of Maine. She works with CPS101 students helping develop and perfect their college essays, prepping for college interviews, and providing tutoring in Critical Reading and Writing for the SAT. She is also the author of How to Write College Application Essays.
Brendan Murphy, a teacher of mathematics at a local private high school and a consultant for the College Board , helps CPS101 students prepare for the SAT Math and tutors students in all levels of math through AP Calculus. He has received numerous awards and recognition at the state and national level for his expertise in mathematics instruction.
Carol Farthing, a retired English teacher and English Department Chairperson, assists CPS101 students in developing their college essay and perfecting the final copy. She also tutors students in English: essay writing, grammar, and in the study of literature.
Elaine Grant, a math teacher at Bangor High School who has taught Honor level math courses, tutors students in Algebra through Pre-Calculus in addition to helping students prep for the SAT Math test.
Samantha Mahar, a John Bapst educator who has been trained by the Princeton Review in SAT Prep, provides individual tutoring in SAT Reading and Writing to CPS101 students.
